Who is Dr. Balat?

“The key element to a successful patient/physician relationship is to listen to the patient as she describes her symptoms. When I prepare a treatment plan, I take into consideration every factor as they relate to the patient: symptoms, clinical findings, patient beliefs and personality.” Isam Balat, MD

Dr. Balat has long been recognized as one of the top OB/GYNs in the greater Houston area. He has delivered exceptional care to his patients, their families and their friends since he started his practice in 1976.

He graduated from UTMB medical school in Galveston in 1973 and completed his post-graduate training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. After residency, he began private practice in 1976, joining Dr. John Armstrong and Dr. Richard Weilburg.

In 1998 he founded Plaza OB/GYN Associates in the Museum District, where he continues to care for women through every stage of life, with a growing focus on menopause and midlife health.

A lifetime member of the Endometriosis Association, Dr. Balat is considered an endometriosis specialist in Houston. He was among the first physicians in the city to offer MonaLisa Touch®, a hormone-free treatment for atrophic vaginitis in women who are menopausal, have had a hysterectomy or are breast cancer survivors. He is also an infertility and ovulation induction specialist.

What to expect

What is it like to be his patient?

01

He listens

The visit begins with your account of what has changed, and it shapes everything that follows.

02

You won’t feel rushed

Appointments are built with room in them. Questions are expected, not squeezed in.

03

He remembers you

Your history is known, so a change gets noticed because someone recalls last year.

04

Care that fits you

Recommendations are matched to your situation and your preferences, not to a default protocol.

“He listens to you and your needs as a patient.”
